Fishes (Pisces)

The last specimen of a sturgeon in the river Rhein
Sturgeon - 1840 from the river Rhein nearby St. Goarshausen
as mount in the collection of the Museum Wiesbaden.

The main part of the fishes are stored in alcoholic solution. This collection is now in the Hessischen Landesmuseum Darmstadt as a loan, because of the lack of a security storage. In addition a part of the fish collection was destroyed in the 2nd World War.
Approximately 300 wet and 150 dry specimens are stored. The mounts of the native fauna must be replaced or completed. We hope to get the material by the anglers.
The shown sturgeon can be visited in the exhibition of the visitor center at the Loreley, nearby St. Goarshausen at the moment. It is incredible that such big fishes were distributed in the river Rhein.

Type-material: #under construction"
